Basic Techniques of Photography — Photography has many techniques that must be known, and we must learn. Through these techniques will produce a different picture according to the usefulness of each technique.

This post is the second part which is a connection from my previous post on part one yesterday. In this post, I will discuss 9 Basic Photography Techniques. Namely, Tilt-Shift Photography, Wildlife Photography, High-Speed Photography, Sports Photography, Low Light Photography, Black & White Photography, Macro Photography, Child Photography, and Baby Photography.

Tilt-Shift Photography

Tilt-Shift Photography requires special movements, and a medium-sized camera also requires a special lens. This technique is the movement and rotation of the camera lens towards an object. Tilt will give a sharp image, the shift will produce a blurry image smoothly.

This technique is generally used in situations with background models that want to be made to look away with the motion blur. For example, when people cross the road where there is a building in front of it, but the building is blurred because of the shift effect.

Wildlife Photography

Wildlife Photography is taking pictures of wild animals that are in the wild. This technique is quite difficult to learn because there are many types of animals, and each animal has its own characteristics.

Taking pictures of wild animals is a challenge because the better results will be obtained after studying well the characteristics of these animals such as gestures, uniqueness, and others.

This technique must be done carefully because animals have sharp instincts and instincts, do not let animals realize or feel disturbed so that the results are natural.

High Speed Photography

Time is the main key in this technique. (picture: unsplash.com)

High-Speed Photography uses speed as the most important part. Shooting on this technique is done in a very, very short time. Shooting timings are the main key.

Examples of these high-speed photos are when a water balloon breaks when water droplets bounce when it falls on the surface of the water when glass breaks, when liquid flies in the air, and others.

Sports Photography

This photography technique is used when sporting events or activities with high dynamics. The use of high ISO is right and the position of the photo is the main key in getting maximum photos.

It would be better if done at an important moment because human expressions are caught-on-camera, and there is a change in emotions. Other devices needed are a fairly large zoom lens and tripod as a buffer because sports are generally carried out in a large field.

Low Light Photography

In every basic photography technique, the use of light is the main key. Even photos with low light intensity have their techniques in producing good images.

This technique is similar to the night photography technique that I discussed in a previous post, but the difference is that the low light photography does not have to wait until the evening.

Black & White Photography

Lighting and composition of photographs is a factor that needs attention. (picture: unsplash.com)

The Black & White Photography technique has photographs in black and white or monochrome. This technique can be done easily to change the settings on your camera to monochrome, one color, which is black or white. Looks easy, but there are some other things that should be considered in taking black and white photos.

One factor to consider is the lighting and composition of the photo. Light becomes a major factor because black and white greatly utilize the light to capture shadows from objects. The composition of the photo is also a major factor because the harmony of black and white is the reason monochrome photos look good.

Macro Photography

Macro Photography is a basic photography technique that is carried out close to smaller objects. This technique requires a macro lens and a camera that supports macro photos, can also be done with a kit lens but its function is not as good as a macro lens. These macro lenses include a macro zoom lens and a close-up lens.

Child Photography

Taking photos in children is usually quite difficult because they often move suddenly. Taking photos can be done with a camera that has sharp images and has little noise. In ISO settings the camera can be done with auto and made 1600 for full-frame cameras and 800 for APSC cameras.

The best time is when the children finish eating, and they just wake up in the morning because they become more active and cheerful than other times.

Baby Photography

Taking photos in infants is more difficult than in children because babies cannot yet understand what is said by adults.

Taking photos can be done by attracting the attention of the baby, and then do photos with a fast time. Photos that can be taken include macro, close-up, black & white, but not limited to other techniques.

Noteworthy is that do not use flash directly to the baby because the baby’s eyes have not been able to receive very bright light such as flash, if you want to use flash then the light must be reflected first.

For the next basic techniques of photography, I will discuss again in the third part posting.
